Unlike vector network analyzers (VNAs) which can measure both magnitude and phase but are expensive, the scalar
network analyzers (SNAs) focus solely on measuring signal magnitude information -specifically, the absolute values
of the S-parameters of the device under test (DUT).
Trigiant mmW’s millimeter-wave scalar network analyzer adopts a split architecture: it generates millimeter-wave
signals via an extender and captures the magnitude information with a detector to perform measurements. This
provides a millimeter-wave test solution with a simpler architecture, faster measurements, and much lower cost in
scenarios where phase information is not required.
